1948 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1948-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1948-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the designer's initials show moderate extra thickness. On the obverse, in TRUST, a SE scratch leaves the R's left corner. NW/SE scratches lie over the head, a NW/SE scratch sits in the ear, and V-shaped scratches lie below the earlobe. The date's 9 and 4 have a gouge between their tops. On the reverse, N/S scratches appear all over, including ones between the R in PLURIBUS and the E in ONE, across the left dot, across NIT in UNITED, and between the two right oak leaf clusters. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-VI.
