1948 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-001

Description

1948-S WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as RPM-001. Both describe it as S/S Southeast, a secondary S southeast of the primary, and both cite it as FS-501 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1948S-501). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties lists obverse markers of many scratches between the LIBE of LIBERTY and the rim, short N/S scratches in the hair, a strong concentric scratch under the date, old N/S scratches close to the rim at 3 o'clock, and a large gouge west of the nose. On the reverse, strong scratches run south from the first T of STATES toward the left cluster of olive leaves and south from the upper olive; strong NNW/SSE scratches lie in the last U of PLURIBUS and on the torch to the right of where the olive leaves overlap; one gouge sits between the tops of the O and N of ONE, another below the left side of the E of UNITED. Eric Axtell submitted the coin. CONECA lists it as RPM #1. VarietyVista does not name a reporter. Under its marker codes UVC-176 and DMR-002, stage A is an early die state it has not confirmed, at stage B both sides are in a middle die state, and at stage C both are in a late die state.
