1941 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1941-D WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1941-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Southeast, with the secondary D southeast of the primary. On the Stage A obverse a gouge leaves the rim between GOD and WE, and lathe marks appear near the rim at GOD, at WE, and beneath the bust's back. On Stage B the secondary mint mark and the GOD WE gouge are weaker, while the lathe marks remain. On Stage C the secondary shows only inside the primary, the gouge is very weak, and the lathe marks are abraded away. By Stage D the gouge is gone too. The Stage A reverse has a scratch joining the tops of PLURIBUS' I and B, and a scratch running west from the left side of its second U, a little above center. The scratches are weaker on Stage B and abraded away by Stage C. Stage D adds a weak chipped crack following the contour of the left wheat ear along its left-side wheat lines, and a crack through the middle of the left wheat grains, nearer the top. John Bordner submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #2; the Coppercoins number is 1941D-1MM-002. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
