1941 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1941-D WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1941-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. IN GOD WE TRUST shows Class V doubling. Obverse: a long diagonal crack through the hair and upper forehead; a series of faded diagonal scratches through and below LIBERTY's Y; and a diagonal scratch in the jacket's lower shoulder fold, behind the lapel. Reverse: vertical scratches inside CENT's C; a vertical scratch through the lower opening of STATES' first S; a vertical scratch rising north from the A of STATES at its upper right edge; a scratch running north from the top of the O in OF; a diagonal scratch grazing the M of AMERICA at its upper right edge; and a series of dots on or near AMERICA's E. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. The Coppercoins number is 1941D-1DO-004. Wexler notes that the updated plate coin was originally listed as 1941-D 1¢ WDDO-005, a coin that turned out to be this variety in a higher grade.
