Description
A second repunched mintmark variety from the 1941 Denver Mint cent production, WRPM-004 represents a different working die than the better-known WRPM-001 for this date. While both varieties arose from the same hand-punching process — a punch operator pressing a steel D into each working die — the resulting misalignment differs between the two dies, producing distinct secondary mintmark positions that specialists can differentiate under magnification. Multiple RPMs from a single date and mint are common for high-mintage issues like the 1941-D cent, as Denver prepared dozens of working dies throughout the production run, and each one represented a fresh opportunity for punch misalignment.
