1941 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

1941-D WRPM-002 is a repunched mint mark on the 1941-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D sits at an angle to the primary. Obverse Stage A: a slightly curving N/S scratch left of the date's 9; scratches from the vest next to the first 1; a N/S scratch in the middle of the hair below WE; a long scratch running east to the rim from the N of IN at its upper right; a SSE scratch from the lower left of GOD's O to the head; and lathe marks near the rim around the back of the bust. On Stage B the scratches are weaker except the strong one in the hair, and the scratch from IN's N and the lathe mark are abraded away. By Stage C only the hair scratch is left. The Stage A reverse has fine N/S scratches in the field, abraded away by Stage B. Stage C adds a light crack from the upper left of ONE's E to the lower right of PLURIBUS' B. John Bordner submitted Stages A and B, and Brian Ribar Stage C. Wexler gives the cross-references as unknown. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing, since the original WRPM-002 duplicated WRPM-009, and that Brian Ribar took the photos for the Wexler RPM Files, one of which shows the die scratch on Lincoln's cheek.
