Capped Bust to Right Quarter Eagles 1796-1807

Coin Series
Capped Bust to Right Quarter Eagles 1796-1807

About This Series

The first quarter eagle ($2.50 gold) design, featuring Liberty wearing a turban-like cap facing right. Robert Scot engraved the design with both Small Eagle (1796) and Heraldic Eagle reverses. Only 963 were struck in 1796 with stars on the obverse, making it one of the rarest regular-issue U.S. gold coins. Production gaps reflect the limited demand for gold coinage.
