2011 (P) Presidential Dollar - Ulysses S. Grant, Position A - P(USG)-100DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2011P(USG)-100DER-002T, a Grant Presidential dollar reverse, has two light sets of trails. One is soft and mushy, on the TES of STATES, the word OF, the tips of the torch flames, the dollar sign and AMERIC, running at 020°, north-northeast. The other is made of crisp straight lines off the ER of AMERICA and the TE of STATES, at 280°, a little north of due west. The code gives 2011P for date and mint and (USG) for Ulysses S. Grant; 100 is the dollar, DER the reverse extension, and 002T the file number with its trail tag. On the stage B coin, crisscross abrasion marks lie above and below Grant's portrait; the reverse has no clear markers. Lynn Morace found it. Rotary polishing of the die is the accepted explanation, with the die moving against the hub as the alternative some propose.
