2011 (P) Presidential Dollar - James Garfield, Position A - (JG)-100DER-001T Trail Die Reverse

Description

The reverse partner of a trailed Garfield obverse, 2011(JG)-100DER-001T has light trails from the letters TATES OF and from the flames of the torch, at an offset of 060°, east-northeast. As with its obverse, 2011(JG)-100DEO-001T, TrailDies prints the code with no mint letter: 2011, (JG) for James Garfield, 100 as the dollar denomination, DER as the reverse side tag, file 001, T as trails. Lynn Morace found the pair. The stage C coin carries scratches through the ED S of UNITED STATES and a crack across the hand holding the book on the reverse, and on the obverse a crack in the hair below the M and breaks in both 8s of 1881. The trail lines are usually credited to rotary polishing of the die, though some writers prefer die-to-hub movement as the cause.
