2010 (D) Lincoln Shield Cent - D-1DEO-004T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Trails on 2010D-1DEO-004T run sideways, from the 2 of the date and from the mint mark toward 280°, just north of due west, the left side of the coin. In the number, 2010D gives the date and Denver mint, 1 the cent, DEO the obverse design-extension category, 004 the file and T the trail type. The middle-die-state coin has small gouges between the E and R of LIBERTY, and on the reverse gouges flank the first T of STATES on both sides. Albert Neils Sr. found it. Polishing the die with a rotary buff is the common explanation for trails; a minority credits the die moving against the hub.
