1974 (D) Eisenhower Dollar - D-100DEO-001 Trail Die Obverse

Description

1974D-100DEO-001 is a 1974 Denver Eisenhower dollar obverse in TrailDies' files, numbered without a closing letter. The code is the date and mint, 100 for the dollar, DEO for an obverse design extension and 001 for the file. It has just two separate lines, one from the W of WE and one from the L of LIBERTY. They sit far apart, but TrailDies still counts the die as a trail die because both point the same way, due north at 000°. TrailDies records no die markers on either face and suggests using the position of the mint mark as a check. Cal Goddard found it. Trails are usually attributed to rotary polishing of the die, though some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
