2008 (P) Presidential Dollar - James Monroe, Position A - P(JM)-100DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Light trails come from the corners of the letters in JAMES MONROE on 2008P(JM)-100DEO-002T and run at 100°, a little south of due east, toward the right side of the coin. In the code, 2008P is the year and mint, (JM) names James Monroe, 100 is the dollar, DEO marks the obverse, 002 is the file and T means trails. Mary Fantauzzo of New York is again the finder. At stage A, the early state TrailDies describes, the obverse has a small die dot on Monroe's forehead, the same kind of marker given for 2008P(JM)-100DEO-001T; the direction of the trails is what separates the two. In the usual reading, trails are left by a rotary buff as the die is polished; the minority reading has the die moving against the hub.
