2010 (D) Lincoln Shield Cent - D-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On the Denver cent 2010D-1DEO-002T, trails leave the date and run due south, 180°, toward the rim beneath it. TrailDies' code is short for 2010 Denver, one cent, obverse design extension (DEO), file 002 and the trails suffix T. Its middle-die-state coin shows a crack across the top of Lincoln's head; on the reverse a chip sits at the shield's upper left edge. A chip in the same place is listed for 2010D-1DEO-003T, whose date trails run at 160°, so the obverse crack and the direction help separate the two. Albert Neils found the die. Trails are generally explained as marks left by polishing of the die with a rotary tool; a less common view is that the die moved against the hub.
