Description

2008P(JM)-100DEO-003T is the third TrailDies obverse file for the 2008 James Monroe Presidential dollar from Philadelphia. The code adds (JM) for Monroe after the date and mint, while 100-DEO-003T says dollar, obverse, third file, trails. Moderate lines run from the letters of JAMES MONROE toward the northwest, at 320°. The middle-die-state coin pictured has a gouge in Monroe's coat over the D of PRESIDENT and a second one just right of the J of his first name. Mary Fantauzzo of New York found it. Trails are usually attributed to the die being polished with a rotary buff, though a minority view ties them to die-to-hub movement.
