Description
2000D-1DER-001WS is a Denver 2000 Lincoln cent reverse with wavy steps, meaning trail lines cross the Memorial's stairs and make them look bent. TrailDies' number joins 2000D (year, Denver), 1 (cent), DER (design extension, reverse side), file 001 and WS, the wavy-step suffix. The stairs deviate lightly below columns 5 through 8, with the lines running at 180°, due south. On the stage B coin TrailDies describes, the obverse has small gouges left of the 2 in the date and at the lower right of the bow tie; the reverse has a dot high in bay 9, toward its left side, and what may be a clash mark in bay 10. The common explanation is rotary polishing of the die, though some see the die moving against the hub as the cause.
