Description
The 1964 Jefferson Nickel is a nickel produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 1.0 billion examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The last year mint marks appeared on circulating nickels until 1968. Record mintages were struck to meet surging demand amid the nationwide coin shortage. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $12 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4075.
