1962-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-007

Description

Submitted by Ben Peters and cataloged by the Wexler Team as WRPM-007, this 1962-D Roosevelt Dime presents a D over D over D — a triple-punched mintmark in a tilted or rotated configuration, representing three separate mintmark punch applications at different positions or angles. Triple-punched mintmarks are significantly rarer than standard D/D repunches and are highly sought by Roosevelt Dime specialists. Die markers appear across two die stages. In one stage, the obverse shows a die scratch running south and slightly right of lower center from the 6 of the date, while the reverse carries light to medium N/S and NNE/SSW die scratches across the entire reverse. In a later stage, NE/SW and NW/SE die scratches appear at the bridge of the nose on the obverse, and a die gouge appears to the right of center from the E of ONE on the reverse. The 1962-D Roosevelt Dime had a Denver Mint production of approximately 334.9 million coins — among the highest in the series at that point and struck in 90% silver, the last year of that composition being 1964.
