1962-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

First in the Wexler catalog of doubled die reverses for the 1962-D Roosevelt Dime, WDDR-001 presents a Class I counterclockwise spread on USA, ONE DIME, and the flames atop the torch. Class I hub doubling — the most common mechanism — results from a uniform lateral shift between hub impressions, producing consistent displacement across elements. Attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as 1962-D 10-cent WDDR-001, the counterclockwise direction means the secondary impression rotated slightly left of the primary. Obverse die markers include numerous scratches running southwest to northeast left of Roosevelt`s profile. The reverse carries two diagnostics: a die gouge left of the bottom of the first A in AMERICA, and a small gouge between the leaves south of the I in AMERICA. The profile scratches and paired reverse gouges create a reliable framework for confirming the correct die pair. Denver`s 1962 dime production was among the final silver issues, struck in 90% silver two years before the composition change. The torch flame doubling is particularly diagnostic, as the flame`s flowing contours make counterclockwise displacement visually distinctive under magnification.
