Description

Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1962-D 10¢ WRPM-004 with no other known cross-references, this Denver Roosevelt dime shows a D/D repunched mintmark with a tilted or rotated initial punch. This is a replacement listing, as the original files were not present in the Bordner files. The obverse carries an extensive array of die markers: multiple east-west die cracks at the top of the head, a helix-shaped die scratch in the hair northeast of the ear, strong north-south scratches above the nose, northwest-southeast scratches from the hair at the back of the head, and a die gouge at the neck above the 9 in the date. The reverse is equally well-marked, with a die gouge above the U in UNITED, a large gouge on the lower right corner of N in UNITED, multiple large gouges on and above the D in UNITED, a gouge below the left side of the first A in AMERICA, a gouge above the right side of M in AMERICA, and another above the right side of M in UNUM. The density of markers on both sides creates a comprehensive fingerprint for the die pair.
