1962-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Cataloged as RPM-003 (UVC-390, DMR-004), this 1962-D Roosevelt dime from the silver series displays a repunched D mintmark. Three die stages document the variety's progression through extended production. Stage A is in early die state with markers unconfirmed. Stage B at mid-die state develops two die cracks through the upper hair and one crack extending to the rim at the K-1 position, while the reverse has reached mid-die state. A second die pairing (UVC-3910, DMR-005) appears in Stage C, where the reverse reaches late die state and the obverse die has been replaced with a fresh early-die-state obverse. The die swap between Stages B and C is significant because it means Stage C coins carry a different obverse entirely, making them a separate die marriage even though the reverse is the same RPM die. Roosevelt silver dimes from 1962 were among the last struck in 90% silver before the composition change in 1965, and repunched mintmark varieties from these final silver years attract collectors who value both the precious metal content and the variety premium.
