1958-D VRPM VRPM-007

Description

An extraordinary D/D/D/D quadruple-punched mintmark — four separate impressions of the D mintmark, applied in Southwest, Southeast, and East directions — makes VRPM-007 among the most remarkable Jefferson Nickel repunched mintmark varieties known. Four distinct mintmark impressions on a single die is exceptionally uncommon; the quadruple-punch status means at least three mispositioning corrections were made before the die was accepted, leaving overlapping displaced D shapes in multiple compass directions. Documented across three die stages — Stage A (very early die state, unconfirmed), Stage B (early-to-mid die state), and Stage C (late die state, unconfirmed) — the variety is catalogued under the VarietyVista VRPM framework. The 1958-D Jefferson Nickel was struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel at the Denver Mint under Felix Schlag's design. Quadruple-punch RPMs of this nature represent the upper extreme of mintmark repositioning errors, and VRPM-007 stands as a landmark variety within the 1958-D Jefferson Nickel population.
