Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as WRPM-015 on the 1958-D Jefferson Nickel, this repunched mintmark variety exhibits a D/D Tilted (Rotated) pattern where the Denver mintmark punch was applied at a slightly different rotational angle before being corrected to its final orientation. The tilted RPM subtype is mechanically distinct from simple directional shifts: rather than the mintmark moving north, south, east, or west between punching attempts, the D was rotated on its vertical axis, producing overlap patterns on the curved portions of the letter that differ from standard displacement varieties. Obverse die markers include numerous nearly vertical die scratches to the left of Jefferson's profile — a cluster of parallel scratches that provides a strong secondary attribution point visible even on moderately circulated specimens.
