Description
Showing a D/D Rotated CW displacement, this 1958 Denver Mint Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-420 / DMR-004. Three stages: Stage A REDS (unconfirmed); Stage B reverse and obverse MDS; Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). The cataloger requests new color digital photos. Rotated clockwise RPMs create a non-parallel overlap where separation varies around the letter's perimeter, distinguishing them from simple directional shifts. The REDS designation for Stage A denotes a state just past initial EDS conditions. Felix Schlag's design was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The late 1950s represent the final years of fully manual mintmark application on Jefferson Nickels, making these RPMs important records of a production method that would eventually be replaced when mintmarks were incorporated directly into master dies.
