Description

Holding the lead catalog position for the 1957-D Jefferson Nickel, this RPM-001 documented by VarietyVista carries distinctive early die state markers. Die markers UVC-416 / DMR-002 track: Stage A at EMDS with light die scratches East-West on the reverse and obverse also at EMDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The E-W scratches documented at the earliest observed stage suggest these were present from die preparation — possibly from polishing or lapping before the die entered service. Struck at Denver in 1957, this nickel is 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter. The EMDS notation rather than simple EDS provides more precise die state information, and the RPM-001 position typically indicates the first discovered or most prominent variety for the date.
