1954-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-258, DMR-002, this 1954 Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime exhibits a repunched mintmark with a D/D North orientation, where the initial D punch was positioned above the final corrected placement. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A (early die state), Stage B (mid-die state), and Stage C (late die state). The northward displacement of the secondary D creates a visible trace above the primary mintmark, a diagnostic feature best observed in early die states before wear progressively softens the impression. As RPM-001 for the 1954-D issue, this variety carries the primary catalog number among repunched mintmarks documented for this date-mint combination. The Denver Mint hand-punched the D mintmark into each working die during the 1950s, and the D/D North direction is among the more commonly encountered RPM orientations on Denver-minted Roosevelt Dimes. Struck in 90% silver (0.900 fine), the 1954-D carries John R. Sinnock's portrait of Franklin Roosevelt. The three documented stages allow variety specialists to position their specimens within the die pair's production timeline.
