1953 (S) Jefferson Nickel - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-004

Description

1953-S WRPM-004 is a repunched mint mark on the 1953-S Jefferson nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. A secondary S lies east of the primary S (S/S East). On the obverse, many NNW/SSE die scratches lie left and right of the bust. One die crack starts at the lower forehead, crosses TRUST's second T and reaches the rim; another crosses the hair on the upper head, NW to SE; and a third follows the jacket's lower front down to the rim. On the reverse, several nearly vertical scratches cross the second O in MONTICELLO; a SW/NE scratch crosses the ERI of AMERICA; and two parallel scratches head north off the top of the C in CENTS. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
