Description
1953PR-5DER-001T is a 1953 proof Jefferson nickel reverse with trails on the E and P of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the ERIC in AMERICA, and FIVE CENTS, all offset at 270°, due west, toward the left rim. The parts: 1953, PR for proof, 5 for the nickel, DER for TrailDies' design extension reverse, 001 for the file, T for trails. TrailDies gives the obverse as 1953S-5DEO-001T. The middle-state coin has no listed markers on either side. Robert Pelletier found it. Trails are mostly thought to result from polishing the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
