Error
Description
1953PR-5DEO-002T is a 1953 proof Jefferson nickel obverse: the PR marks a proof, 5 the five-cent denomination, DEO TrailDies' design extension obverse, 002 the file and T the trails. The lines come off the word WE at 060°, east-northeast. The reverse of the same coin is listed separately as 1953PR-5DER-002T. Two markers identify the middle-state pair: the ST of TRUST has split upper serifs, and a small gouge sits in the half-round window over Monticello's door. Robert M. Pelletier found it. It is generally held that trails come from rotary polishing of the die, while a minority opinion points to the die moving against the hub.
