1950-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-502, this VarietyVista-documented Denver Mint Roosevelt Silver Dime holds the primary catalog position for the 1950-D date and exhibits a D/D Southwest displacement with a mid-production obverse die change. Die markers UVC-195 / DMR-003: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a weak vertical bar of the secondary mintmark at MDS, numerous east-west die scratches on the reverse, and a light die crack northeast above the ear at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Then UVC-196 / DMR-004: Stage D with a strong vertical bar of the secondary mintmark at VLDS and the obverse die changed at EDS. The paradox of a stronger secondary mintmark appearing on the later obverse die suggests different die preparation or surface characteristics. Designed by Sinnock, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 2.50 grams and 17.91 mm.
