1949 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-046

Description

1949-S WRPM-046 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the secondary S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: N/S scratches around and above the date, with others heading north above it; N/S scratches about the ERTY of LIBERTY and long scratches heading north above the RTY; and field scratches between GOD and the head. Stage B adds clashed dies, showing well at the throat; N/S scratches, one of them very strong, running from the lower vest under the date through the 19 and ending in the field right of the beard; scratches over the top of the head, spanning from GOD's O to WE's E; strong scratches heading north, two to the upper right of the Y in LIBERTY and one above it; and a N/S scratch in the field above the T of LIBERTY. On the reverse, Stage A has N/S scratches above and between the UNI of UNITED and N/S scratches above, through and below OF. Stage B adds N/S scratches inside the O of ONE, two scratches heading south from the base of the N's left leg in ONE, and a scratch that starts above the O in OF, crosses it, and ends at the top of the left wheat stem.
