Description

Cataloged in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1949-S 1 cent WRPM-036 and cross-referenced to Coppercoins attribution 1949S-1MM-007, this repunched mintmark variety on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat Cent is accompanied by a comprehensive set of obverse and reverse die markers. The 1949-S was produced at the San Francisco Mint, which hand-punched mintmarks into individual working dies — a practice that generated this entire class of varieties across the Lincoln cent series.
