1949 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-033

Description

1949-S WRPM-033 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S East: the secondary S lies east of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a series of five N/S scratches inside the 9 of the date, with more N/S scratches around the 19; E/W scratches above WE; scratches under the bust; a strong scratch that passes above, through and below LIBERTY's L, with a chip in the field above and right of that L; scratches heading south from the base of the ER and north from the tops of the ERTY of LIBERTY; and a chip right of the ear. On Stage B a small chip appears on the lower lip and all the Stage A scratches are faint. Reverse Stage A: a crack on the left wheat stalk that runs north from the middle of the wheat, then turns NW to end in the field left of the upper stalk; two small gouges inside the C of CENT at its lower left; NW/SE scratches from the N of CENT reaching to and between the AT of STATES; and scratches that begin at the top of the N in UNITED and continue south through that N and on through the O of OF. Stage B adds a chip at the center of the left wheat stalk and one on its left inside edge, due west of the U in UNITED. Frank Bruske submitted Stage A and David Bloomberg Stage B.
