1949 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-031

Description

1949-S WRPM-031 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the secondary S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: two SE-running scratches between the W and E of WE; a short scratch from the lip to the top of the chin; scratches beneath the chin and in the field by the neck; and N/S scratches around the 19 of the date. Stage B adds a chip beneath the bust on its right side, and Stage C a short gouge low on the vest. On the reverse, Stage A has a scratch heading south from the base of the U in UNITED, and stopping at the lower right wheat stalk, and another running south from the lower N of UNITED through the O of OF to the left wheat stem. Stage B adds a chip at the base of the last U in PLURIBUS. Stage C adds a short gouge above the second U of UNUM and a chip centered on the upper edge of the M in UNUM.
