1949 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-024

Description

1949-S WRPM-024 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S South: the secondary S lies south of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a gouge on the lower vest; several scratches below VDB; scratches heading north from the tops of RTY in LIBERTY; and scratches above the 19 of the date running toward the chin. Stage B adds a small gouge by the rim, below the L of LIBERTY. Stage C adds a gouge in the field east of the point of the bust and chips on the neck below the ear. On the reverse, Stage A shows a chip on the outer side of the N's left leg in CENT, about a third of the way down. Stage B adds a chip on top of the E of ONE, and Stage C a chip beside the end of the left wheat stem. Submitters were Brian Ribar (Stage A), David Bloomberg (Stage B) and Scott Rusch (Stage C).
