Description
Obverse Stage B: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: NW die gouge from the upper right of the last 9 in the date. Strong N/S die scratches right of the profile. Lighter N/S die scratches on most of the obverse. Obverse Stage B: Strong die clash at the throat. Weaker die scratches. Die gouge at the date still present. Obverse Stage C: Heavy die N/S scratches at the throat in an attempt to polish away the die clash. Two E/W die scratches through the top of GOD. Die gouge (dropped die?) SSE from the rim at about 9:15 o’clock. Stage B die scratches still present. Stage A die gouge at the date still present. Obverse Stage: D: Strong die gouge at rim above the L of LIBERTY. Obverse Stage E: Die gouge at the date still present. Only the heavier die scratches in front of the profile remain. Die gouge at the rim is weaker. Remaining die scratches are weak and abraded away. Die clash is abraded away. Obverse Stage F: Only very weak remnants of the scratches in front of the profile remain. Die gouge at the date still present but weaker. Obverse Stage G: Very weak die gouge at the date. Upper separation of the mintmark abraded away. All die scratches abraded away. Reverse Stage A: Light lathe scratches near the rim. Light north by west/south by east die scratches on most of the reverse. Reverse Stage B: Stage A lathe scratches show mostly above PLURIBUS. Stage A die scratches are weak and show mostly at the ES of STATES. New die scratch NE/SW at top center of the first U in UNUM. East by north/west by south die scratch through the bottom of the first U in UNUM. New die scratch WSW from the lower left of the E in CENT that runs through the U in UNITED to the wheatear. Reverse Stage C: All stage B die markers still present but weaker at the first U in UNUM. New die scratch ENE from the upper right of the second T in STATES. Reverse Stage D: Previous die scratches are still present except at the U of UNUM. North by west die crack from the left upper area of the left wheat tip. NW die crack from the rim at 3:15 into the right wheat grain and then turning north. Reverse Stage E: Second Reverse. Die scratch north from the left wheat tip to the left center of the E in EPU. North by west/south by east die scratches through the C of CENT. N/S die scratches at the T of CENT. Mostly north by west/south by east die scratches at the UN of UNITED, STA of STATES, O in OF and the RICA of AMERICA. Reverse Stage F: Die scratch from the wheat tip is weaker. Die scratches on the left side are abraded away. Die scratches on the right side are weaker. Long west by south/east by west die scratch under AMERICA. Short die gouge below the die scratch posited below the last A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage G: Die scratch below AMERICA almost abraded away. Stage F die gouge is weak.
