1949 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-017

Description

1949-S WRPM-017 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the extra S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: short scratches on top of the forehead; strong field scratches below TRUST's UST and right of the profile; multiple scratches around the date's 1; a strong scratch on LIBERTY's R at its upper and lower right; many scratches running north from the top of LIBERTY's T, and scratches right of that T; and a small scratch in the jacket fold right of VDB. On Obverse Stage B fine scratches run in all directions over the entire obverse; north-south scratches lie around the mint mark, a group of them reaching from its top to the base of the date's 4, and a scratch runs north from the mint mark's top into the field over the date. Obverse Stage C adds an east-west scratch between the lower B and E of LIBERTY and another between its RTY. Reverse Stage A: two scratches left of CENT's C; scratches running north from the top of UNITED's N and ending under CENT's C; north-south scratches inside CENT's E, high and low; multiple north-south field scratches to the left of the left wheat stalk and to the right of the upper right one; and two southward scratches from the underside of the left arm of STATES' second T. Reverse Stage B adds a chip on the top edge of OF's O. Reverse Stage C adds a crack on the upper left wheat stalk that runs north from the left wheat's top and ends in the field under the E of E PLURIBUS, and a chip at the inner left edge of the left leg of UNITED's N.
