Description

Cross-referenced as FS-503 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, this 1947-S Roosevelt Dime carries an S/S North repunched mint mark with the secondary impression displaced above the primary strike. The mint mark style is classified as MMS-002, known as the Trumpet Tail variant — a distinctive S punch characterized by an elongated lower serif that flares outward. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-163 and DMR-006, three die stages track the progression. Stage A at early die state shows die scratches through ICA of AMERICA with the obverse also at EDS. Stage B at mid-die-state develops die scratches through the left side of the reverse with the obverse also at MDS. Stage C reaches late die state on both obverse and reverse. The 1947-S Roosevelt Dime belongs to the second year of the series, struck in 90% silver at the San Francisco Mint. The Trumpet Tail mint mark style is a sought-after feature among Roosevelt Dime specialists, and the FS-503 Cherrypickers' listing confirms this as a widely recognized variety suitable for third-party attribution.
