1947 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1947-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1947-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the north appears on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the designer's initials. On the obverse, a scratch extends WSW from the upper left of LIBERTY's T through the top of the R. From the rim near 12:00 a gouge extends SW, a small gouge sits south of the date's 1, and another small gouge lies right of the upper ear. Scratches run SSE off the lower back of the head, and clash marks stand out from the upper nose. On the reverse, two parallel WNW-to-ESE scratches cross the flames atop the torch, one through their middle and one through their bottom. Gouges sit on the lower part of UNITED's E and below it, and a scratch heads SSW off the I in DIME at its upper left. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
