Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this 1947-D Roosevelt Silver Dime carries a D/D South repunched mintmark with die markers UVC-155 / DMR-010. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with the reverse at LDS while the obverse remains at MDS, an asymmetric pattern indicating the reverse die deteriorated faster than its obverse counterpart. The cataloger notes the need to examine a specimen for high-magnification color photos. John R. Sinnock designed the Roosevelt Dime, introduced in 1946. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1947, composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 2.50 grams with a 17.91 mm diameter. The southward D displacement indicates the initial mintmark was placed too high, with the corrective second punch moving the final position downward.
