Description

On this early Roosevelt Dime, WDDR-003 exhibits a close spread towards the center on ONE DIME, UNUM, and AMERICA. Obverse die markers include a die scratch extending east-southeast from the lower right Y in LIBERTY and a die scratch extending north from the top of Roosevelt's nose. The reverse carries a nearly horizontal die scratch running through the center of the D in DIME and a short, strong die scratch extending west-northwest from the upper left M in DIME. An additional die scratch runs from west-northwest to east-southeast above UNUM. The center-directed spread creates a tightening effect on the lettering that is best examined under magnification, particularly on the DIME inscription where both the doubling and the diagnostic die scratches converge. Collectors should note that the strong die scratch through the D of DIME provides a quick identification point before confirming the subtler doubling on UNUM and AMERICA.
