Description

Cataloged as Wexler WRPM-028 and cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1947D-1MM-011, this 1947-D Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits a D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunched mint mark, where the secondary D impression was applied at a slight rotational angle relative to the first. Tilted or rotated repunched mint marks show the second placement not merely shifted directionally but actually turned, creating a distinctive overlapping appearance that differs from simple north-south or east-west repunching. Obverse die markers include a die chip on the lower right of Lincoln's chin, scratches running to the northeast from the date area, and east-west scratches under BUS of PLURIBUS. On the reverse, an arching scratch appears near the C of CENT, and a die chip sits under the first T of STATES. The dual cross-referencing under both Wexler and Coppercoins cataloging systems confirms independent verification of this variety. These multiple die markers across both sides of the coin create a thorough identification profile, allowing attribution even on well-circulated examples where the repunched mint mark details may be partially obscured by wear on the small D punch impression. Long faint die scratches run NE from the 19 of date. Reverse: Die scratches run E/W under BUS of PLURIBUS. Arching die scratch touches the lower outer edge of the C of CENT.
