Description

Postwar Denver Mint cent production resumed at full capacity in 1947, and the 1947-D WRPM-006 Lincoln wheat cent records one of the mintmark positioning errors that resulted from the high-volume die preparation of that era. The transition from wartime to peacetime coinage brought changes in alloy and production priorities, but the mintmark application method remained unchanged — a hand-held punch driven into each working die by a press operator at the Denver facility.
