1947 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

1947-D WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1947-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Northeast: the extra D lies northeast of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a circular pattern of scratches centered on the jaw; a short scratch inside the ear; scratches behind the ear and along the jaw line; a short scratch in the field at the bow tie's edge; scratches from the bust to the date's 1; and a gouge in the field at the rim's edge, SW of the bottom of the 7. Obverse Stage B adds a crack on the back of the forehead, level with WE. Reverse Stage A: a chip along the left wheat stalk's lower right edge, S/W of UNITED's U. For Reverse Stage B Wexler notes no markers. John Bordner submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #1 and Coppercoins as 1947D-1MM-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
