Description
Cross-referenced as FS-504 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, this 1943-S Washington Quarter was documented by VarietyVista with an S/S South displacement. Die markers UVC-0375 / DMR-025: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B reverse and obverse MDS; Stage C LDS with a light die crack from the US of PLURIBUS to the wing, obverse LDS. The FS-504 listing validates this as a recognized variety actively sought by collectors. The die crack from PLURIBUS to the eagle's wing follows a characteristic stress path connecting inscription and design elements through a concentrated pressure zone. Flanagan's design was struck at San Francisco in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The 1943-S had a mintage of approximately 21.7 million, struck during WWII when San Francisco maintained silver quarter production. S/S South. FS-504.
