1943 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1943-S WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. On LIBERTY there is a very close counterclockwise (CCW) spread, pivoting from about 6:00. On the obverse, a crack heads NE off the tip of the nose, another heads east through the upper forehead and into the hair, and an almost horizontal crack crosses the hair just over the forehead. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, and on that wing, under the U of UNITED, there is a die chip, and another crack links the Q in QUARTER, on its left side, with the tip of the eagle's right wing. Dennis Campbell submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
