1938 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

This 1938 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mint mark, WRPM-005, is cataloged by Wexler (doubleddie.com) as 1938-D 1¢ WRPM-005. The mint mark is D/D South. Stage A shows a strong secondary, a long scratch south from the L of LIBERTY to the rim, light SE scratches from the beard toward the 1, and a die chip west of the top of the 1. The secondary weakens on Stage B to a lower-left remnant on Stage C, with only the chip by the 1 persisting. Reverse Stage A: a scratch south from the O of OF to the left wheat stem, east-west scratches by the right wheat stem below the IC of AMERICA, and a scratch SW from the last A of AMERICA; by Stage C these are gone and a small chip appears below the right leg of that A.
