1938-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent holds the primary RPM catalog position for the 1938-D date with a D/D West displacement. Die markers UVC-060 / DMR-002: Stage A with a die gouge in the right leg of the R of TRUST at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS, a very light die crack from lower right wheat to rim at MDS, and a light die crack north from O of ONE to rim through the first U of PLURIBUS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The die gouge in TRUST at Stage A and the dual reverse die cracks at Stage B provide robust attribution markers at multiple die states. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1938-D had a mintage of approximately 20.0 million pieces. The FS-501 listing confirms collector demand.
