1938 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1938-D WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1938-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Southeast of the primary eyelid sits a strong doubled eyelid. On the obverse a light crack crosses the head heading WNW from the middle of the eyebrow, and a light curving crack arcs over the designer's initials. The reverse is WDDR-002 in its Stage A: a chip on the left wheat stem, nearer the ear than the base and under the O of OF; a light crack near the tip of the left wheat; a tiny die dot right under the V-shaped center of AMERICA's M; and two small gouges touching the inside of the E in AMERICA at its bottom, a marker Wexler says shows most easily on the WDDR-002 listing's Stage B. Al Raddi submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-IV; the Coppercoins number is 1938D-1DO-001.
