1938-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

Cross-referenced as CONECA 4-R-VI and Coppercoins 1938D-1DR-004, WDDR-004 of the 1938-D Lincoln wheat cent exhibits moderate extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST and both wheat ears. The wheat ear doubling provides a visually accessible pickup point, as the parallel lines of the stalks amplify even moderate displacement into detectable extra thickness. Obverse die markers include a die gouge appearing as a dot right of the upper ear. The reverse carries a die gouge at the inner tip of the right wheat, a small die gouge right of the upper T, and a small die gouge inside the C in CENT. The 1938-D was struck at the Denver Mint during the later Depression era, and the CONECA 4-R-VI cross-reference places this variety within the established CONECA classification system using a numerical class, die face indicator, and Roman numeral sequence.
