1937 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011 / RPM-003

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under its marker codes UVC-1176 and DMR-006, RPM-003 on the 1937-D Lincoln wheat cent is a repunched mint mark with the second D to the Northwest; Wexler numbers the same variety WRPM-011. Wexler cross-references it to CONECA RPM #3; VarietyVista gives no cross-reference. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes it as D/D Northwest and credits Lloyd Hanson as the submitter. On the obverse, a curving scratch running northwest to southeast crosses the top of the B in LIBERTY, and a second scratch, running east to west, links the G and the O of GOD. On the reverse, a row of short scratches runs south from the E in STATES. VarietyVista also credits Lloyd Hanson and also lists D/D Northwest. It records three die stages: in stage A both the obverse and the reverse are in an early die state, while stage B, a middle die state, and stage C, a late die state, are not yet confirmed by VarietyVista.
